TEACHER FEATURE
A Second Life: Lisa Greenwood

Teaching, directing school plays, sponsoring the Junior Players, acting in Lawrence Community Theatre and being a mother of two must not be enough to keep Lisa Greenwood busy.  When all the kiddies are tucked into bed, Lisa enters Second Life.  In this on-line community, Lisa is part of an international writing group.  When members decided to put on a play as a fund-raiser, it was Lisa who conceived the idea for In the Pink.  With contributions from an international collaboration of writers, Lisa compiled, edited, co-wrote and directed the play in an on-line theatre in March.  The collection of women’s monologues, each in a distinct voice and style, won critical praise.
The play drew the attention of the Neighborhood Playhouse in NEW YORK CITY and in April, In the Pink was produced in this prestigious off-Broadway theatre.  (http://www.neighborhoodplayhouse.org/ ) Lisa was there to hear her own lines spoken by actors like Marissa Berenson, Tina Louse, and Melissa Ferrer.
That was Lisa’s first inside shot at the New York stage.  This summer she returned to participate in a summer workshop at the Hilton Theatre on 42nd Street where she worked with professional actors, composers, stage managers, writers, and other theatre pros.  Lisa attended four Broadway plays and after each show had talkback sessions with stage managers and cast members.  “I got an idea of how things work in professional theatre by meeting all these people and learning from them—not something you get when you just go to see shows,” Lisa said.  She appreciated the great advice, new techniques and instruction that she will put to use in West productions.
Lisa’s “second life” carries over beautifully to her first-life career.  West drama productions are always innovative, well-acted, and entertaining.  Let’s just hope the bright lights of Broadway don’t entice her away from West.
