TEACHER FEATURE
You probably think you know Matt Frost, social studies teacher and coach at West since 1994. You know him as Frosty; you know him as the uber-hip basketball coach beloved by his students and as Margaret Thatcher’s biggest fan. As co-producer of Frosen Productions, Matt has brought us two of the most . . ., hmmmm, . . original films ever shown to West students. He’s gone from coaching the girl’s basketball team at West to coaching at Freestate . Matt’s family includes Amanda, FACS teacher here at West, and his children Tatum, four, and Silas, four months. That’s his day life.
At night, Matt becomes a rocker, member of well-known Lawrence band The Blackbox Within. They’ve played shows at the Granada, the Bottleneck, the Main Street Café in KC, and many other venues. If you want to know more about rocker Matt Frost, check out MySpace/Blackbox Within. Of course you can’t do that at school—like so many other things. But somehow our funkiest teacher does manage to bring his music into the classroom when he can. “Every now and again I play for the kids if they are good and we listen to a lot of music while working.” Maybe someday--if we’re really good—he’ll play for us too.
